“After more than 20 years of administrative work, I ended up on sick leave due to an accident and was eventually declared unfit for work. That was quite a shock. I have faced many challenges and have always fought to stay on my feet, making sure I remained employed. At the time I was declared unfit for work, I didn’t yet realize that this was a blessing in disguise. Through the Modular UWV program at Dynamisch Bureau, I learned that I had fought enough—it was time to take care of myself.”
A coach that suits me
“It was great to be able to choose a coach that suited me through the Dynamisch Bureau website. The photos provided a good impression of the coaches, and the clear descriptions helped me select someone who also works with horses. I love horses and was thrilled to participate in a coaching session with them. During this session, I learned to claim space for myself and let go of old limiting beliefs. It taught me to focus less on what others think and to choose what I truly want for myself.”
Setback or windfall?
“I have a positive mindset, and I believe that has kept me going. I have had quite a challenging life, with accidents and surgeries. Years ago, I had to recover from torn tendons in both knees and ended up in a care facility, where I had to stay longer than expected. What initially seemed like a setback turned out to be a blessing in disguise. I felt so welcomed and at home in the care facility—it did me a world of good.”
This is where I belong
“Before starting my Modular UWV program this year, I began doing volunteer work at the care facility where I once recovered myself. I assist with lunch and activity guidance, such as chair gymnastics and walking. This is where I feel happy and at home. It may sound unusual, but I truly love my colleagues and the residents—and they love me. Here, I can be myself, and I would love to continue working in this place.”
Paid work
“I have always been a caring person, but I never considered working in healthcare. Taking this step has brought me so much. With the guidance of my coach, I have been able to create structure in my work and life, allowing me to grow in multiple areas. I am rebuilding my life—not only in my career but also in my personal life. I now have time and space for sports, recreation, friends, and family. I have gained more confidence in myself and dare to choose and care for myself from this newfound trust. By further strengthening this structure and confidence, I aim to transition my volunteer work at the care facility into a paid position.”
Tip
“I had always thought I would continue doing my original job until retirement. When things turned out differently, it was a tough blow. To those who find themselves in a similar situation, I want to say: take the time to process such a transition. Make sure you find a way to come to terms with it. And remember, things often unfold differently than you expect. Seek or accept help—it will take you further than you could go alone. My life has become so much richer because of it!”
