Self-compassion – being kind to yourself!

Why is it that people are often more forgiving towards others than towards themselves? My mother was scammed on Facebook and ended up being more angry with herself for being ‘so naive’ than with the person who had tricked her. I asked her how she would have responded if the same thing had happened to a good friend. Her answer was much more compassionate — she said she would have told her friend that it could have happened to anyone

Practicing self-compassion can be quite a challenge. In our coaching programs, we invite people to embrace their own humanity. After all, being human means being imperfect. A beautiful book on this topic was written by Kristin Neff.

Consciously reflect on positive experiences and compliments

In the rush of everyday life, we often overlook the good moments. Even a compliment can easily pass us by without really sinking in. It’s important to consciously pay attention to the positive. Take a moment to pause, fully take it in, and let it truly register.

Shared humanity

“Life also includes deep valleys. It can be comforting to know that others go through similar experiences. We’re all connected. Right now, there are people facing situations much like yours

Attention to what is there

Take a moment to notice what’s happening right now. How are you feeling? Happy? Content? Emotions like sadness, anger, or uncertainty are also allowed to be there — you don’t have to push them away. Simply pause and give yourself permission to feel. Without judging yourself or your emotions. Everything is welcome.

Contact

To your brain, it makes no difference whether you’re touched by someone else or by yourself. Touch can help soothe and comfort you. Place your hand on your heart, massage your head and shoulders, or use any other form of touch that feels right for you.
