With my vacation just around the corner, I’ve started reflecting on things like how I use my talents. That’s why I say: holidays reveal your talents!
Every day, I help individuals and teams make the most of their strengths. So I often find myself thinking about how we can best apply our talents. Do people actually know what they’re good at?
Utilising talents
I also try to let go of tasks I’m less skilled at and focus on using my talents. My strengths lie mainly in the social domain: one-on-one coaching, team facilitation, and maintaining contact with our coaches and clients. And I’m so grateful for our office assistant, Ellen Brinkman, who recently joined us to provide administrative support. Administration is definitely not where my strengths lie. Thanks to her, our proposals are now free of typos, our invoices are complete, and — even better — none get forgotten!
In addition to exploring how you can thrive at work, your vacation can also help reveal even more of your talents. After all, at work, we often display “adapted” behavior — behavior that is expected of us in certain situations.
On vacation, however, you can truly be yourself. There are no managers, colleagues, or clients placing demands on you. That’s why a holiday is the perfect moment to explore which talents you genuinely enjoy using in practice.
Are you the one who immediately grabs the tent poles because you’re practical and handy? Or do you head straight to the reception to check in, arrange your spot, and ask all the questions because you’re a natural organizer? Do you enjoy using your knowledge of the French language while doing so?
At what moments do you feel truly happy and in your element — and what does that say about you and your talents?
If you’re fully immersed in discovering your talents, you might even want to start taking notes.
So I warmly invite you to use your holiday to explore what you naturally feel drawn to and what kinds of initiatives you take. I’ll be doing the same! Will you share your insights with me after the summer?
Still not quite sure? Then consider a TMA Talenten Analyse something we at Dynamisch Bureau can carry out and discuss with you.
