“There’s truth in the saying, ‘The final stretch is the toughest’. For many, this holds especially true during the last weeks of December. Getting up in the dark to head to work—dealing with traffic jams, packed buses or trains, or braving the cold on your bike—only to return home at dusk or even later.
Work is demanding, the kids need attention, and the holiday preparations are in full swing. During this time of year, it can feel like you’re juggling more balls than ever.
That’s why, in this dark December month, it’s all the more important to take good care of yourself. That means finding moments of light and creating space for rest.
How do you do that? As a coaching agency, we’re happy to share a few tips!”

Begin with the end in mind

Especially during times that feel (too) overwhelming or full, it’s important to focus on the result you want to achieve. Planning to host a big Christmas dinner? Then visualise the happy faces around the table and the warmth of being together. That image brings positive energy—whether you’re picking out recipes or doing the grocery shopping.

Press pause on yourself now and then

It only takes a minute—ideally a few times a day. Use that minute to bring your attention to your body. Notice your feet on the floor, your fingers on the keyboard, or your back against the chair. These are micro-moments of physical relaxation.
Do you often forget to take these small pauses? Set reminders on your phone, or ask someone to help you remember.

Taking stock

  • How do you look back on your (working) life last year?
  • Did you still feel enough challenge in your work?
  • Have you been able to use your talents, or develop them further?
  • How was your relationship with your manager, with your colleagues?
  • How was your worklife/balance in 2022?
  • Which tasks gave you the most energy?
  • Are you comfortable in your (work) skin?

By calmly taking in one of these questions and mindfully scanning your thoughts, feelings, and/or emotions without getting caught up in their content, space and lightness can arise. It also gives you insight into steps you might want to take differently in 2023.

Do you feel stuck, perhaps overwhelmed by thoughts and emotions? Or have you gained insights that you’d like to explore further? The coaches at Dynamisch Bureau are here to support you! You’re very welcome to join us for a cup of coffee or tea and a free introductory meeting – also in 2023.
