Peter Eijs: "Without the trust of my coach and others during this difficult period, I would not have gotten to where I am today."

“I worked for my previous employer for over 25 years, the last 12 years as a payroll employee. I enjoyed working very much and also got along well with my colleagues.

At a certain point, my job changed so much that it didn’t really suit me anymore. In the end, my employer and I said goodbye in good harmony. I was offered a settlement agreement with an outplacement program at Dynamisch Bureau.

From the first meeting with my coach from Dynamisch Bureau there was a click that I normally don’t have with a “stranger”. Most of the time I keep a safe distance to myself. Talking about my feelings was something I didn’t do at all. Yet that obstacle was not there during the conversations I had with my coach. It felt very familiar. My appointments became moments I looked forward to.

The situation I had ended up in had much more impact on me than I initially realized and made me very insecure. A lot had also changed in terms of applying for jobs. Because I had to look for other work, all kinds of things came my way. All these aspects were given attention in the process. I have updated my CV and adapted it to the current standard. I also created a LinkedIn profile. For someone who has nothing to do with social media, that’s a very big step. I started working on this in a group session. Nice to see you’re not the only one. Suddenly, I was found on LinkedIn by recruiters!

In the end, I went back to work through a trial placement. I ended up in a close-knit and very pleasant team. My new colleagues made me feel welcome from the start. Because it is a completely different way of working than I was used to, I had a lot of trouble with the work until at a certain point I no longer had the confidence that this was “my” place. Fortunately, my supervisor thought differently and had confidence in me. In a three-way meeting with my coach from Dynamisch Bureau and my employer, we discussed my performance and how I can best be guided, based on my TMA Talent Analysis. After extending the trial placement, I now have a six-month contract and I am really enjoying it.
